about

‘Caravan’ takes Debris Discs in a more psychedelic, expansive direction while at the same time honing in on a resolutely pop sensibility. Electronics, drum samples, acoustic and fuzz guitars, baroque piano and synth bass mesh together in a kaleidoscopic swirl. Multipart harmonies are paired with a perfect pop vocal melody, before hotly tipped Sheffield-based folktronica group Polyhymns join in for the rousing yet melancholy coda.

‘Caravan’ is an ode to escapism. It’s a flight of fantasy that comes at a certain stage in life. A leap from despair to repair. Before the last sliver of your soul is sealed into life’s vacuum pack, it’s the quickest way out. Time to go to ground. Grab your tin cans and propane gas, hitch up that fiberglass box and go.

lyrics

This is getting heavy
Pulling at the glue
Crushed by expectations we’ll never live up to

Caravan
Fold out your bed for me
Tin cans and propane sets us free

Slumped in enervation
Carving up the days
Fighting hard to focus
Losing to malaise

Caravan
Fold out your bed for me
Tin cans and propane sets us free

Pack a simple life that we can tow
Beat the volume of the doubts with the radio

Maybe we should go undercover
Take a little time to recover
Make a little space to discover
Just sit around and talk to each other
This could be our real life buffer
Are they going to hit us with another?
Then maybe we should stay undercover

Everyone wants, everyone says
But no one knows

A monotone haze enveloped the days
Where’s our golden glow?

Everyone shouts, everyone states
Nothing to show

We used to dream
We used to dance
And now we’ve plateaued

Everyone fights, everyone breaks
And we stay low

This fibreglass box could be our escape
So it’s time to go
